Hey Martin, happy new year, thanks for the reply. Mr Hofmanns must be having his extended holidays :-)

On paper HP 500 SE definitely outperforms his little brother, but pairing with the RE280II, the HP 300 is perhaps be a better match? I do not wish to spend on a 500 unnecessarily if 300 can do the job.

: Hi audiophile

: I am only a reguler member of the list, however in absence of Mr Hofmanns response I can share with you my experience:

: 1. HP500SE + RE 280: I heard this chain in a store and it was excellent. However, you may still want to consider either upgrading of the RE 280 to the monos or "downgrading" from the HP500SE to a HP300mkII which, according to my experience, will be just fine too. Anyway, all combinations are excellent with the well known punchy impuslive Octave sound.

: To me the HP500SE semms a little wider, more transparent, the HP300 is punchy and dynamik. But don't forget, a simple change in cheap tubes may also achieve larger alterations in sound.

: My guess: HP300mkII and the RE280. But you wont regret either choice.

: Best, Martin

: PS: Disclaimer: just IMHO (in my humble opision).

:
: : Does it make sense to get a HP 500 SE + RE 280 Mk II combo?
: : Do you think they will outperform the HP 300 + RE 280 Mk II combo? Or the 300+280 have better synergies?

: : I don't need big amp because I have a pair of high sensitivities speakers (Focal Elektra 1027 Be 91 dB) and a small listening room, thus not looking to buy the MRE 130 monos.

: : danken
