Antwort auf: Verstärker zu Harbeth Super HL5 von Stefan am 15 April, 2012 um 23:17:34:
Hello Stefan
I have been using the combination of Harbeth speakers and Octave amplifiers for 1 year now and this has been incredible. My first setup was the Super HL5 with the V80. I heard the combo of V70se/SBB with Super HL5 at a friends house and this was superb. V70se drove the Super HL5 with ease with great grip, dynamics and quite scary life like transparency - the neutral and transpanent sound of the ocatve matching exceedingly well to the legendary midrange of the harbeth. My friend still uses this combo today and feels he requires nothing more.
I think either V70se or V80 will be more power than you will ever need for the SHL5.
This is also a perfect opportunity to mention that speaker efficiency and ease of drive are not mutuially exclusive. What you you should be looking at Stefan is the impedance curve and loading of the speaker. Harbeth are not efficient in terms of db output per 1 watt, but are an EXTREMELEY easy load to drive. This is because all Harbeth's including the SHL5 have impedance curves that stay between 6 to 4 ohms even during Wagner, Die Walküre dynamic swings or Bruckner Symphony No.5 cresendo's. Alan Shaw knows how to design proper speakers!! Other speaker's will dip to 2 ohms or less in the impedance and provide greater strain on the amplifier to drive. Therefore, it is impedance loading curves that you MUST look at and not seaker efficiency. This is why even though some model's of JBL horn speakers are rated at 95db, their impedance curves are not good falling below 2 ohms which is why many people drive JBL horn with 300watt solid state amp - so the 95db of the JBL is very misleading - infact all db ratings of speakers are GROSSLY misleading.
I am now using Harbeth M40.1 with Octave RE290 power amplifier, HP500se preamp and SBB - just shows how much I wanted to stay in the Harbeth/Octave camp! for me, it's a truly superb
realtionship of the components.
Please look at pics on www.xaudio.com.sg and go to photogallery where you will see pics of my M40.1/Octave setup. I'm from London, but live/work in Singapore.
Hope this helps Stefan
